Soundbites: The Week in Audio - 02.11.18

This week’s blog takes a look at Global’s move to the Great White North, two well known football fans launch a new podcast on Acast and 19 new radio stations available for a certain 4 million radio listeners in the UK!

Global expands into Canada with their latest acquisition.

This move signals the launch of DAX Canada, giving Global an ad sales and ad tech footprint in the country. It means the digital audio advertising platform’s reach grows to 165 million people.

Gary Lineker and Danny Baker have come together to create their own football podcast on Acast.

‘Lineker & Baker: Behind Closed Doors’ will be a new regular show full of the intimate details of life in and around the sport. The trailer is now live on Acast, Apple Podcasts and your other regular podcast providers with episode one launching on Wednesday 7th November.

New DAB transmitters now up and running for SDL.

On the 15th of May this year, it was announced that SDL would add 19 transmitters in the South West, East Anglia, Wales and North of Scotland, increasing Sound Digital’s coverage by nearly 4 million new listeners in more than 1.6m new households.

Commitments have been met on their behalf, as this week saw the DAB transmitters launch - creating new audiences for stations such as Virgin Radio, KISSTORY, Absolute 80s, Planet Rock, Jazz FM, talkRADIO and talkSPORT2.

Highlight of the Week:

Not another conference: The launch of IAB UK’s Nonference.

Yesterday, we witnessed the launch of a brand new event from the IAB UK. They came up with something a little different. Instead of the usual panel and keynotes, IAB UK looked into curating an event that stimulated, educated and, most importantly, got attendees involved. Passive listening was not on the menu.

There were many amazing talks and contributors such as Google, who spoke on how best to craft your mobile experience into something people love. Facebook and the Future of Conversation Messaging, and of course the highlight of the day was seeing our in-house creative team, Red Apple Creative's Head of Creative and Content, Kathleen Moroney who was joined by Acast's Joe Copeman and Lizzy Pollott, and My Dad Wrote A Porno's Jamie Morton to discuss the wonderful world of podcasts and its benefits!
